Today I got to know the lovely wedding celebrant, Lisa Hunt-Wotton, by asking her about her wonderful services, her approach and her style. Read our insightful Q&A session below:
1. What makes an amazing, heartfelt and memorable event that everyone loves?
Thoughtfulness and a GREAT celebrant. A good celebrant will quickly resonate with you. They will totally comprehend your vision for your special occasion and if you are not sure yourself of what you want, a good celebrant will dig for the gold in you both and bring out the best to make your day the best day possible.
2. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your experience?
As a celebrant I love to create personalised ceremonies and rituals to make that precious event one to remember forever. I love journeying with people through the most important moments in their lives.
As a writer, I delight in turning anecdotes, memories and stories into captivating and memorable moments. My highest value is to make your event all about YOU and to make your day as relaxed as possible.
Well known for my decades of work in the creative and performing arts as a Writer, Director and Producer, I have been called an influencer and change agent. I love empowering people and ideas.
3. What is your general philosophy about weddings?
I love creating personalised ceremonies to make that precious event one to remember for ever. A great ceremony reflects the vision that you have for your wedding, your values and your heartbeat. It should be a relaxed and fun celebration of your love for one another.
4. What made you want to become a celebrant?
I have an associate degree in Theology and had previously been working as a Ministry Leader and Creative Director in a large Church in Melbourne for 10 years. However, I really wanted to become more available to the larger community. My years as a creative director and producer mean that I am passionate about crafting moments of wonder and events that reflect the heart and soul of the people that I am involved with.
Transitioning to the role of a Celebrant seemed like a natural progression for me and encapsulated my love of people and creativity.
5. What type of venues do you work in?
I work wherever the couple want me to work. That has taken me to beaches in the Philippines, gardens, rivers, paddocks, churches, vineyards and homes.
6. What kind of ceremony do you offer?
I offer original and handcrafted ceremonies which reflect the vision and passion of the couple.
7. What is the most elaborate wedding you have ever been a part of?
I went to the Island Borocay in the Philippines for a beach wedding. It was simple but extremely exotic. Everyone was in bathers and sarongs. We had a tribal drum band playing. The tide was coming in and the reception went on into the night on the beach with fireworks, sand sculptures and lots of dancing and swimming.
8. Do you have vendors on your list to help make planning easier for your brides?
Yes, I have an extensive list of musicians, photographers, vocalists, makeup artists and hairdressers that I have worked with for decades in the entertainment industry. Professionals that I trust totally.
9. Do you offer different packages?
I don’t offer different packages. When you book me you are booking my decades of experience in events and public speaking. I give 110% to everything that I do and treat every event as the only event on my mind whether its small or large.
10. What’s the process to book you as a celebrant?
The process is easy. Just contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org , we make an appointment so that I can hear your vision, dreams and hopes and then we take it from there. I have extensive resources so if you are not sure or if you feel like you are a blank page, we make innovation happen together. I make the process engaging and lots and lots of fun.
11. What key skills do you need for your job/industry?
You definitely need a love for people. You are representing them on one of the most important days in their lives, whether it be a wedding or a funeral. You need compassion and an ability to listen. You are then able to accurately interpret their vision for the event and lead them in right direction if they are confused or unsure.
12. What is your favourite thing about your job?
One of the most exciting aspects of my job as a Celebrant is meeting new clients and hearing about their vision and heart for their event. Of course, the most rewarding aspect is knowing that I have captured the essence of the couple or family that I am representing and that I have crafted and delivered the event to the joy and pleasure of all involved. Nothing makes me happier than executing a unique and memorable event.
The hardest thing is when the event is over. I feel like I’m losing my best friends. Hopefully, however, we will stay in contact for baby naming days, renewal of vows or family funerals.
13. Three words that best describe you as a person?
Engaging, funny and relaxed.
14. What is your best wedding related tip?
The best tip I can give a couple is to be prepared. The more prepared you are the more relaxed you will be. Also, when you plan an event you need to realise that it is not just about you. You are taking everyone who attends on a journey and you need to capture and keep their attention, their hearts and their emotions from beginning to end. That’s my job to make sure that happens.
15. What is your dream wedding location?
Without a doubt it would have to be Bora Bora in Tahiti or the Maldives. OMG, I would faint with happiness.
